Life
--- By Allan Houston
Life can be good,
Life can be bad,
Life is mostly cheerful,
But sometimes sad.
Life can be dreams,
Life can be great thoughts;
Life can mean a person,
Sitting in court.
Life can be dirty,
Life can even be painful;
But life is what you make it,
So try to make it beautiful.
生活可能是智慧结晶;
生活甚至可能痛苦;

Freedom 《自由》
Freedom from fear is the freedom
I claim for you my motherland!
Freedom from the burden of the ages,
bending your head,
breaking your back,
blinding your eyes to the beckoning
call of the future;
呼唤着令人心动的将来;
Freedom from the shackles of slumber wherewith
you fasten yourself in night’s stillness,
mistrusting the star
that speaks of truth’s adventurous paths;
充满艰险的真理道路;
freedom from the anarchy of destiny
whole sails are weakly yielded to the blind uncertain winds,
and the helm to a hand ever rigid and cold as death.
Freedom from the insult of dwelling in a puppet’s world,
where movements are started through brainless wires,
repeated through mindless habits,
Where figures wait with patience and obedience for themaster of show,
to be stirred into a mimicry of life.
Be A Friend
Be a friend. You don’t need money;
Just a disposition sunny;
Just the wish to help another
Get along some way or other;
Just a kindly hand extended
Out to one who’s unbefriended;
Just the will to give or lend,
This will make you someone’s friend.
作为一个朋友,你不需要金钱财产;
只要你有着性情上的温暖阳光;
要以各种方式与人融洽相处;
Be a friend. You don’t need glory.
Friendship is a simple story.
Pass by trifling errors blindly,
Gaze on honest effort kindly,
Cheer the youth who’s bravely trying,
Pity him who’s sadly sighing;
Just a little labor spend
On the duties of a friend.
Be a friend. The pay is bigger
(Though not written by a figure)
Than is earned by people clever
In what’s merely self-endeavor.
You’ll have friends instead of neighbors
For the profits of your labors;
You’ll be richer in the end
Than a prince, if you’re a friend.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometimes too hot the eys of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
他那金彩的脸色也会被遮暗;
And every fair from fair somethme declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed:
被时机或者自然的代谢所摧残;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest;
你永远不会失去你美的仪态;
Nor shall Death brag thou wanderest in his shade
When in eternal lines to time thou growest.
你将在不朽的诗中与时间同在;
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
I asked nothing, only stood at the edge of the wood behind the tree.
Languor was still upon the eyes of the dawn, and the dew in the air.
The lazy smell of the damp grass hung in the thin mist above the earth.
Under the banyan tree you were milking the cow with your hands, tender and fresh as butter.
And I was standing still.
I did not come near you.
The sky woke with the sound of the gong at the temple.
The dust was raised in the road from the hoofs of the driven cattle.
With the gurgling pitchers at their hips, women came from the river.
Your bracelets were jingling, and foam brimming over the jar.
The morning wore on and I did not come near you.
On a Stair I Stood
Pierre de Ronsard
(English version by Humbert Wolfe)
Lately as dreaming on a stair I stood
you passed me by, and, by looking on my face,
blinded my eyes with the immediate grace
of unanticpated neighboourhood.
As lightning splits the clouds, my heart and blood
split with your beatuty, and began to race,
无与伦比的美丽击碎了我的心脏;
now ice, now fever, shattered in their place
by that unparelleled beatitutde.
And if you hand in passing had not beckoned--
your whiter hand than is the swan’s white daughter,
向我示意,引我躲过死亡;
Helen, your eyes had wounded me to death.
But your hand saved me in the mortal second,
and your triumphant eyes the moment after
revived their captive with an alms of breath.

thy spirit deceive.
if I should meet thee
after long years,
how should I greet thee?
with silence and tears.
3、When You Are Old Yeats
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look,
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
回想它们昔日浓重的阴影;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
爱你衰老了的脸上痛苦的皱纹;
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how love fled,
And paced upon the mountains overhead,
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
4、The Human Seasons John Keats
Four Seasons fill the measure of the year;
There are four seasons in the mind of man:
He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear
Takes in all beauty with an easy span:
在幻想中把所有美景一览无余;
He has his Summer, when luxuriously
Spring’s honied cud of youthful thought he loves
To ruminate, and by such dreaming high
Is nearest unto heaven: quiet coves
他高高飞扬的梦想几乎升上天堂;
His soul has in its autumn,when his wings
He furleth close; contented so to look
On mists in idleness--to let fair things
Pass by unheeded as a threshold brook.
He has his Winter too of pale misfeature,
Or else he would forego his mortal nature.
5、The Road Not Taken Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
显得更诱人、更美丽;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

An ancient Hebraic text says:" love is as strong as death". It seems that not everyone experiences this kind of strong love. The increasing probably,crime and war tells us that the world is in indispensable need of true love. But what is true love?
Love is something we all need.But how do we know when we experience it?
True love is best seen as the promotion and action, not an emotion. Love is not exclusively based how we feel.Certainly our emotions are involved.But they cannot be our only criteria for love.True love is when you care enough about another person that you will lay down your life for them. When this happens,then love truly is as strong as death.How many of you have a mother, or father,hu *** and or wife,son or daughter or friend who would sacrifice his or her own life on yours? Those of you who truly love your spells but unchildren, would unselfishly lay your life on the line to save them from death? Many people in an emergency room with their loved ones and prayed"please, God,take me instead of them".Find true love and be a true lover as well.May you find a love which is not only strong as death, but to leave to a truly for feeling life.
02I am the wind, the gentle wind; I am the clouds, the slow, drifting clouds; I am the water, the silent water; I am the mountains, the boundless mountains… If you so want, I will be the gentle wind that will wrap around your lonely spirit! If you so desire, I will be the slow, drifting clouds that will unquestioningly be your support! If you so wish, I will be that silent water, without a murmur, protecting you by your side. If you so will, I will love you unrelentingly, just like those boundless, unbroken mountain ranges and valleys! But, I regret I am not the wind and not able to take care of you. I hate that I am not the clouds and not able to bring you warmth; I pity myself that I am not the water and not able to be so pure; I am angry that I am not the mountains and not able to have my love will be as immovable as I would like. I can only be myself this time, my mortal, earthly self, my only self, the only self that I can ever hope to be. I thirst for love but I do not understand her deep mystery. I strive for transcendence but I would rather be silent and nameless. I want to be mature but I would rather remain innocent. I would like that she love me, but I do not know even if I truly love her! Endless searching, thirsting, striving, pursuing-where are my goals? Where is my future? In this mundane world, I am one lonely speck; in this universe I am a powerless particle of dust. My love, thought beautiful, is nothing great in itself. And so, I ask only to live as well as I can. In truth, there is no need to live one‘s life basking in glory, rising above men—— so long as one’s life has some value, has some security… Fearless and capricious, love will cause me great pain. Youth, transient and inconstant, will bring me loneliness. Work, busy and mindless, will make me lost. I am just searching for and waiting for some of that which shines, that which is radiant in life…
However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it hard names.It is not so bad as you are.
It looks poorest when you are richest.The fault-finder will find faults in paradise. Love your life, poor as it is.
You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poor-house. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its door as early in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.
The town’s poor seem to me often to live the most independent lives of any. Maybe they are simply great enough to receive without misgiving. Most think that they are above being supported by the town; but it often happens that they are not above supporting themselves by dishonest means. which should be more disreputable.
Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage.Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old, return to them.
Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts.
